Experience

Vari-Lite, Inc; Dallas, TX

Jan 1996 to May 2000, June 2001 to December 2001, Sr. Electronic Design Engineer

Lead hardware engineer for the design of flagship control console and control system.

Designed a lighting industry control standard protocol converter using the Motorola 5407 Coldfire processor.

Designed a 100BaseFX interface with proprietary backend HDLC serial communications using the Siemens ESCC8 and an Altera FPGA to provide a 16 channel DMA controller.  This board used a 25MHz MC68040 with 32MB DRAM.  All processor decode and timing logic is programmed into a single EPLD device.  Used Viewlogic for schematic capture and Altera HDL for logic implementation.  Performed bench checkout using logic analyzer and oscilloscope.  Assisted software in checkout of software drivers.

Designed 100BaseFX interface/main processor card for the console using a 25 MHz MC68040.  This design also includes an IEEE-1394 interfaces to communicate with a Apple Macintosh and the console front panels.

Supervised fellow engineer in design of 5 front panels for console utilizing MC68332 processor in each.

Coordinated with the mechanical engineer in the design on the console.

Initial prototype used FDDI for the communications backbone.

Insight Electronics, Richardson TX:

June 2000 to May 2001,  Field Applications Engineer

FAE for a leading electronics distributor.  Focused on telecommunications products with an emphasis on Infineon, IDT, and AMCC  offerings.

E-Systems, Garland TX:

May 1987 to Jan 96,  Electronic Design Engineer

Lead hardware engineer for the design of custom interface card.  This card was based on an embedded 25MHz 68030 with 16MB DRAM.  All processor decode and timing logic is programmed into a single CPLD device.  Lead bench checkout of card using analyzers and oscilloscopes.  Supporting integration of card with remaining equipment.

Senior hardware field engineer in support of a military intelligence unit in Europe.

Systems engineer, resolving system design issues and developing requirements for digital recorder system.
